Helen Salim

Swedish upcoming jazz vocalist sensation Helen Salim has since her early years been dedicated to the vocal spectra in jazz music, and decided her path in music at a very young age. As a 16 year old she got accepted to a Big Band High School program in Stockholm. Developing from there, she got well known for her multifaceted voice and got accepted to the Jazz Program at the Royal College of Music in Stockholm. Today she has been professionally playing with her own band and some of the finest jazz musicians in Sweden and Scandinavia.

Helens main strength and passion in music-writing is to tell her story not only with lyrics but also with complex and moving sound in phrases. Helen’s influences include modern jazz musicians like Ambrose Akinmusire and Becca Stevens as well as the large voices of Ella Fitzgerald, Sarah Vaughan and the rhythmic feel of Bud Powell and Charlie Parker. This blend of influences became her road towards creating something absolutely unique. To explore and dive even deeper towards new musical grounds, she tied her musical knowledge - with her Persian ancestry and a new world of compositions were written.
